The cries of the Viridian (Pidgey)

This Friday evening after I finished up working with my assistants in on Arbok venom immunity tests in Fuschia city, I spent a good while of the afternoon sitting still on a park bench outside the safari zone, looking in a the expanses of wilderness and comparing the zone to the Beech Maple Forest that surrounded the path up to the zone. It was 6:30 or so and the sun was setting. Not surprisingly the trees were stirring with life as diurnal birds returned to their nests to roost for the night. Despite the great commotion, a pair of birds caught my eye. In the evening light, it appeared as if they sat, basking on the mandarin peel surface of a fallen log. Unlike the rest of the flock of Pidgey's these two sat, rustling quietly alone on the ground. It was soothing to see the two watching the world calmly without necessarily interacting with it, similar as to what I was doing there.

As common a pokémon as Pidgey may be, their behavioral patterns are noticeably interesting. Pidgey resembles a small, plump-bodied bird. It is a brown color, with a lighter colored throat and belly. The tips of its wings share this cream color. Both its feet and beak are a pinkish-gray color. Its plumage is fairly nondescript, particularly compared to its evolutions Pidgeotto and Pidgeot. It has black markings around its eyes and a small crest of brown and cream feathers above its eyes. Pidgey are docile and prefer to avoid conflict. If disturbed, however, it can ferociously strike back^[78] and will use its wings to stir up clouds of sand in an attempt to distract its would-be opponent and escape.^[79] Pidgey also uses this technique to bring its preferred prey of small insects into the open.^[80] Pidgey seems to possess magnetoception, as it is capable of returning to its nest from any location without fail.^[81]
